Some people ask me, “Dr. Nate, what happens when I am done with my first year of care?” Before I answer the question, you need to see the context of the forest from the trees. Healing is a discipline, not a destination. This is a concept that we teach here at The Premier Life, because it reflects reality.
How much sense would it make to be going on a diet for a season, just to return to the same junk food that got you sick in the first place? Why would you workout for a stint just to go back to being sedentary? Health isn’t the end goal destination. It’s the vehicle. It is the means to live out your life’s calling.
It can be easy to get so caught up with crossing an imaginary finish line of “I’m working to be off of this medication” or “I want my bloodwork to look like this.” These are good goals to have, but life doesn’t stop throwing challenges towards your health the moment you get off of a medication or cross a threshold on your bloodwork.
Health reflects being not only able to get off medications (or bloodwork looking better), but to stay that way. The real metric of health should be asking, when challenges do happen in life, how fast can I get back on my feet?
Since its conception, chiropractic has always been about restoring and sustaining function through the system that controls all function in the body. The nervous system is the fountainhead, and when it is not working as it is supposed to—challenges will arise and stay. It is a critical component to a healthy lifestyle that should include many components like nutrient dense food, movement practices, a positive mindset, healthy circadian habits, and toxin reduction.
If we are looking to elevate function, the question becomes, what decimates it? If you’ve been to any of our workshops, you’ve heard us discuss how physical, chemical, and emotional stress (stimuli that are beyond the body’s bandwidth) are the things that lead to disease and decrease function in the body. We measure the body’s response to these stressors on INSiGHT scans, and we measure long term adaptation on x-ray imaging to see where the areas of collapse are.
When do these stresses stop? They don’t. This is why, in this clinic, we provide care that sustains you through life’s challenges. For anyone that wants to maintain high levels of function in the body, it requires directed energy to maintain that. Corrective care initially is meant to offset years of stress induced patterns in the body that have accrued due to these physical, chemical, and emotional stimuli. Once the body finds stability, the goal then becomes to maintain high levels of function so that you can enjoy life to its fullest.
This stability is maintained in different ways, and should look different for most people. The people that have relatively low stress lives should have an adjustment frequency that matches that. People that have a higher stress load should also have a healthy corresponding adjustment frequency.
Healing is continual progress against decay. Life will throw abrasive things at you. Care is the proactive approach to noxious stimuli that knock us off our feet. Here at The Premier Life, our mission is to be a place where people can experience love, hope, and restoration of their God-given potential to heal. Health is something to carry and direct every day of your life. It is our joy to walk with you, to help carry the load along the way.
Blessings,
Dr. Nate
