What Everyday Chemical Exposures May Be Doing to Your Family and What Your Body Was Built to Do About It
Before you left your house this morning, you may have already encountered dozens of chemicals through everyday products—shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, cosmetics, soaps, cleaners, food packaging, and more.
A 2025 Rutgers Health study following nearly 600 people found participants used an average of 14.5 personal-care products per day, representing exposure to more than 100 unique chemicals from those products alone.
That sounds overwhelming. But the same research offers an encouraging message: what you choose matters. Being intentional about the products you use can reduce certain exposures.
Plastics Are Showing Up in Places We Never Expected
Scientists are increasingly investigating microplastics and nanoplastics inside the human body.
A 2026 European Heart Journal study examined blood taken from the coronary circulation of 61 patients. Researchers detected micro- and nanoplastics in 84% of patients experiencing a serious heart attack, compared with 40% of patients with chronic coronary disease and 32% of controls with healthy coronary arteries.
How much environmental load are our bodies carrying every day?
Heavy metals are another concern. Large-scale research has associated exposure to lead, arsenic and cadmium with increased cardiovascular risk. Other everyday compounds, including BPA and certain phthalates, are studied as endocrine-disrupting chemicals because of their ability to interfere with normal hormonal signaling.
Your Body Was Designed With a Defense System
Here’s the part we don’t talk about enough: Your body isn’t helpless.
Your liver continually transforms compounds so they can be eliminated. Your kidneys filter your blood. Your gastrointestinal system removes waste. Your lungs and skin also participate in normal elimination processes.
You don’t need to be afraid of everything around you. But you can reduce unnecessary exposure while supporting the normal systems your body already uses. That means getting back to fundamentals:
Eat real, nutrient-dense foods. Move your body. Prioritize sleep. Stay hydrated. Reduce unnecessary exposures where practical. And support your overall health rather than chasing every new “detox” product.
Commercial detoxes and cleanses often make claims that haven’t been demonstrated by strong clinical evidence. The goal isn’t to find a miracle product that somehow does your body’s job for it. It’s to become a better steward of the body you’ve been given.
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit… Therefore honor God with your bodies.” — 1 Corinthians 6:19–20
Taking care of your body isn’t simply about looking better. It’s stewardship.

We’re going deeper into this conversation and turning information into action. We’ll talk about everyday exposures, your body’s natural detoxification systems, practical ways to reduce your family’s chemical load, and how to separate useful strategies from marketing noise.
Dinner is $35 per person — BUT bring a first guest and BOTH of you eat FREE.
And we’re working on something new for the practice centered around this exact conversation. We’ll be sharing more that we don’t want you to miss out on.
YOUR FIRST STEP?
Don’t panic. Get intentional.
You don’t have to overhaul your entire house tomorrow. Start learning what’s in the products your family uses most, reduce unnecessary exposures where you reasonably can, and support the incredible systems your body already has.
