Self-Inflicted Toxicity: A Practice Member's Perspective

Self-Inflicted Toxicity: A Practice Member's Perspective

I wanted to take a minute and break up the weekly newsletter from our doctors, and this time, highlight one of our practice members who I can say has had true health transformation at The Premier Life.

Rob is someone who has seen his health suffer/ rapidly decline and has done the work necessary to rebuild it.  He carries the understanding that health should/will remain as a non-negotiable in his life.  With that, it’s always a conscious thought on his mind and something that he continues to pursue as without it, a lot of life isn’t possible.

I wanted to take a minute and reflect on something that I notice others around me doing. We get caught up in the chaos of everyday life and then start to worry if we are doing enough for others or more importantly what they think of us. I had a middle school teacher tell me something I have never forgotten and try to think about it all of the time. She said, “others' opinions of you are none of your business.”

It's important to be kind to people and treat them with respect but if people around you aren’t doing the same then that can be a real problem. If you let what they think of you control you then it's not fair to you first of all and second, it can cause you real health issues.

I recently went to the dinner about preventing cancer that the office had and I’ve been thinking about what Dr Mike said. He said if you have a cheat day or miss exercising DON'T feel guilty because it can be worse than the act itself. I have been thinking about that and realized that it expands beyond that. It applies to what others think of you. If you feel guilty about what others think then you are doing an injustice to yourself. I like to refer to a song lyric I know. “I am me and that can’t be wrong”. This is so true. We are all meant to be different, look different, act different. If we are all the same then it would be a boring life. The one thing we can all be together though is healthy.

I've been coming to this office for over 8 years. I still find it amazing how much I learn from talking to Dr Matt and other doctors about certain little things. It's very nice to get different perspectives from different doctors. But one thing they all share is they care about the practice members and always remind you that your body can heal. This is the only time you should care about what someone thinks of you is when it is positive.

We live in a world where instant gratification is strived for way more than I like to admit honestly. People get upset and treat others differently if something doesn’t benefit them. This is not fair to people. Change is usually a slow process and takes time to accept and make it part of your daily routine. If others around can’t make this change then at least don’t let them rain on your parade. They are allowed to have their opinions of you but don’t let it take away what is most important in life and that is your self worth.

I am not a doctor or anything like that. I have written a few of these letters over the years and I just try to encourage people to try and step back and re-evaluate the situation every so often. We often know what we need to do to live a successful and happy life but we also need reminders once in a while. That is why I enjoy going to the dinners and seminars. It helps refresh many tools I already use and also gives me new ones. This is an amazing team and they continue to grow to be more amazing each time I come in for my weekly adjustment.

I hope this letter helps someone change their outlook on things in a positive way. It doesn’t need to only come at a time where things aren’t going so well. It’s just as important to compliment someone at their best.

Take care and stay healthy,

 Practice member Rob

Our next dinner event is called DETOX, where we will show you how the best form of detox is not found in another supplement or pill.
